Steampunk Circus

Steampunk Circus
Inspiration for this costume was clearly the great striped fabric!
And somehow I wanted something short, bold, but with a touch of Steampunk – and so this two-piece set consisting of a vest and a miniskirt came to be.
Since I imagined this costume in a circus arena from the start, I named it accordingly;-)

Making of …

The basis for the vest was an old Burda pattern 4194. This pattern almost drove me insane! The fitting was beyond anything I would have expected from a vest and I started with the beautiful fabric right away. After countless changes, some outbursts of rage and after almost quitting I finished the vest after all.

Lesson learned: Never use such (older) patterns without testing and adjusting them first – before cutting into your precious fabic!

I made the pattern for the skirt from scatch. The idea of the removeable mini bustle came after I realised that I had a tiny bit of fabric left ;-)
